The Islamic Institute for Education & Development (IIED) is a very special organisation.
A school and orphanage home to over 50 children, most of whom are orphans and some are children to parents so poor they are unable to take care of them.
It was founded by Sheikh Omar Ceesay. Sheikh Omar has made it his life mission to create what he calls an ‘Orphan Village’. A place for these forgotten children to feel secure, nourished and supported. A place they could proudly call home.
His aim is to build a place that is self sustainable to ensure these children are provided with a secure and stable standard of living, so they are able thrive and grow up feeling confident to achieve to the best of their ability both in spiritual and worldly matters.
Sheikh Omar comes from a humble background himself but this has not stopped him to work hard for many years until with the help of Allah (swt) he was able in 2009 to purchase a land in Siffoe to start establishing this Orphan Village.
It has been 11 long years of trying to get the necessary buildings and facilities established.
Sheikh Omar has struggled to complete any of the buildings to the standard he had hoped as running an organisation on this scale comes with inevitable costs such as Food, Healthcare, Wages of staff and general running costs.
Unfortunately this means that these children are currently living in very poor conditions.
The accommodation for the boys is not complete, the accommodation for the girls is of a poor standard, there are no classrooms and dining rooms as of yet. This leaves them no choice but to overuse the mosque room for all these purposes. The wear and tear in this room is a visual reminder of the struggles the orphanage is facing.
This suffering is unnecessary!
Together we can help, together we can build a dream place for these children who are tested at a young age through no fault of their own.
Let’s make a small effort to see this dream Orphan Village become a reality. Let’s give these children a chance to be raised in a loving and caring environment so they can grow up to be righteous and successful muslim men and women and feel confident and equipped to be a part of wider society.
